Types of business costs

Costs will vary depending on the type of business. Let's take the example of a shirt factory. Some costs will have to be paid even if the shirt factory is making no shirts or very few shirts, other costs will only be incurred if the factory is actually involved in the production of the shirts. Costs which vary with production output are called variable costs, those which remain the same even if output changes are called fixed costs.
